Year 2014 Updates

Toilet facility for Thulasenthirapuram Govt. School:
The toilet in a government school is a very basic necessity, particularly for girl students. It is one of the main reasons for school drop-outs. Helping Minds trust has given Rs. 25,000 for the toilet for the Govt.Hr.Sec.School, Thulasenthirapuram in Nagapattinam district. This school does not have any toilet facility, there are 350 girl students studying in this school. Sneham from Infosys is helping with Rs. 25,000 for this school. The toilet construction for this school has been now completed.

While the Government is the primary responsible for the school toilets, we are making our small efforts so that the children are not penalized for the inactivity/delay from Govt.

Heartfelt Thanks for the many members who donate to Helping Minds regularly. These donations are the only reason enabling us to take up such activities.

The below news article mentions that there are 3 crore students in India who don't have toilet facilities as per a research from UNICEF.

Overcoming challenges in life - a success story!
A girl student from Rajapalayam, completed 10th grade by 2008 with 439/500 marks, but didn't attend college due to poor family background. She approached our Helping Minds member T.Subramanian around 2011 (after 3 years gap during which she was working as a winding worker). Her father is partially disabled and not fit to do any active physical job. After heavy persuasion by Subramanian, PACR Polytehnic, Rajapalayam gave a seat to her in Diploma in Textile Engg.

HM Trust paid her 1st year diploma college fees. As she had a arrear in one of the first year papers, we didn't pay her 2nd year fees, but set a target of 80% to get our financial support for the next semester. She then scored 79% in her 2nd year, so we paid her 3yr term fee.

Now she has got a job through campus placement - for a pay of 6k to a company named Saravana Spinning Mills/ Dindugal. It really doesn't matter how many students get job from her dept / what pay etc, but for her it should be a great moment. Hope she works for a long period and take care of her family well.. After gaining some experience, chances of getting a job locally in her native (Rajapalayam) shouldn't be that difficult.

It gives immense happiness to share this great news with you friends. Kudos to all the members who continue to support HM trust through voluntarism and finanical support.
