Notebooks for Jeevika

We received a request for notebooks from an orphanage - Jeevika, with around 60 kids, in Padur, Chennai. The caretaker of this home had requested help for the notebooks to help for the study for these children.

Gopal and myself have visited this home many times before. They are running this home with lot of difficulties. The Sneham Social Welfare Foundation is funding this group for their day to day food.

Murali and Thiagu went to Jeevika last weekend; got the below notebooks from a local shop and handed over to Jeevika inmates.

25 School bags - Rs. 2100
10 Physics records - Rs. 35
02 Chemistry records - Rs. 70
30 Pens - Rs. 75
15 Slates - Rs. 225
22 80 page unruled note - Rs. 192
50 192 page unruled note - Rs. 1000
Total -> Rs. 4012

Thanks for your efforts, Murali and Thiagu.

Mahendran

Mahendran comes from a family of Beedi Rollers – his father is the third generation beedi roller. This boy is the first one to enter technical education.

He belongs to MBC category; in his +2, he has got 186 in Maths, 175 in Chemistry and 156 in Physics. Could have easily got an Engineering seat, atleast in a private college, but did not apply due to poor financial situation. He has joined second year of polytechnic last year and is studying in final year now. They managed to pay the fee (Rs 5500) from family savings last year.

He is looking for assistance (Rs 5500) this year as they have already run out of resources. Helping Minds has paid his fees - Muppi has taken a DD in the name of the college and given to Bala. Thanks Bala for bringing this request to HM!

His parents are agricultural labourers. He has also done farming activities while doing his +2. He has got the medical seat through pure merit. His annual fees comes to around Rs 11,000 and mess bill is around Rs 15,000. He is at present meeting the expenses through help from friends and by obtaining loan from various persons. Bala's colleague is giving him money whenever she could.

HM has decided to help Thanasekaran. Muppi has taken a DD for Rs. 10000 in the name of the college and given to Bala.
