Education help for Vijay Madhav

Our friend Sundar brought to the notice of Helping Minds about Vijay Madhav, a computer science diploma student from Chennai suburb Guduvanchery.

Vijay has been doing his IInd year diploma in PSB polytechnic at Kelambakkam. He is a brilliant student who topped the institute with 87% in the first year. Incidentally, he had also topped the school in matriculation exams. His father is a cook with a meager salary and mother, a primary school teacher whose salary only fits to pay the house rent.

Vijay needs economic help to continue his studies and helping minds, on validating the request and willing to help him, decided to share his yearly fees of Rs.15210 along with Anavi trust, another NGO that has thoughts with the likes of HM. It was decided that helping minds sponsor Rs.10000 and Anavi trust, the remaining Rs.5210. Sankar took the DD for Rs.15210 and sent to Vijay Madhav right in time to pay the fees on the last day.

Vijay has agreed that he would do his best to show improvements in the semesters to come.

We wish him all the best and thank all who made this happen.

Continued Support for Naushad

HM had helped Naushad in completing his diploma - he was one of the class toppers. Then he got admission into an engineering college - that too Mechanical branch free seat in Crescent. Last year HM had provided Rs.10k for his fees.

Naushad applied for bank loan this year and got it sanctioned from Indian Bank, Tarangambadi. The loan amount comes around Rs 50,000/= per year as against the annual fees of Rs 75,000. A rule in education loan of the bank states that the student should show proof for possessing 25% of the total loan amount - that is Rs 12,500. The Bank Manager had said that the loan would be released only if this rule is satisfied. The College Management has asked him to pay the fee before next week.

In this circumstance, he has requested for help from HM for this year too. Naushad has secured 70 % in III sem and 74% in IVth sem.

HM has decided to help him this year as well. I have taken a DD for Rs.10000 and sent it to Bala today who will be handing it over to Naushad.

Continued support for Barani

Barani is now doing final year B.E (EEE) in EGS Pillay Engg College, Nagapattinam. He was one of the students whom we have helped last year.
A brief background about Barani, especially for the new members of HM:To meet his fees for the first two years, Barani's father had sold out their ancestral house for Rs 85,000 and paid the fee and met other expenses. For the third year, he had to pay a fees of Rs 32,500 by June 30, 2005.. They had decided to sell the cows that would fetch around Rs 13,000 and some jewels that could garner another Rs 15,000. Besides, the hostel expenses come around Rs 1100 a month. He is staying outside (which is cheaper) and has to spend around Rs 750 a month for food and accommodation. His father's salary comes around just Rs 1200. Even if his mother goes for cooking in balwadis, she could earn just Rs 500 a month. His sister had just completed her +2 and has joined B.Sc in a local college paying a fees of Rs 1750. In a happy development, Barani's college management had offered him a scholarship of Rs 15,000 (nearly waiver of half-of-the fees) for being one among the top 5 students. Bala brought this request to Helping Minds and HM gave Rs. 5000 for last year's fees and Sneham has provided Rs. 5000 to Barani. Due to these developments, as we wished, they had not given away the cows!
Barani has secured 77.7% in V sem. VI sem marks are awaited. He has requested for help this year too. His college has waived the Rs. 7500 in the fees for him this year. Helping Minds has provided Rs. 10000 for paying his fees for this year. Muppi has taken a DD in the name of the college and handed over the same to Bala today. We hope and wish Barani to do well this year and get a job soon.
